Men’s Hoops: Cats sign two in early signing period

Northwestern announced the signing of two high school seniors to national letters of intent Wednesday.

The Wildcats signed Drew Crawford from nearby Naperville, Ill., and Alex Marcotullio of Warren, Mich. The two will, in effect, replace seniors Craig Moore and Sterling Williams next year.

“We’re extremely excited about the additions of Alex and Drew to our basketball family,” Carmody said. “They both are excellent students in classroom and have had stellar high school and AAU careers. With the loss of two senior guards to graduation after this season, they will have an opportunity to help immediately.”

Crawford is a 6-foot-5 guard who averaged 17 points and six rebounds per game as a junior at Central High School. He was named the co-Player of the Year in the DuPage Valley Conference and is ranked No. 9 in Illinois by chicagohoops.com.

Marcotullio is a 6-foot-3 shooting guard who was an all-state selection by the Detroit Free Press after a junior year where he averaged 18 points, five rebounds and five assists per game for De La Salle High School. He played on the same AAU team as freshman center Davide Curletti. Marcotullio is a good outside shooter and should help to replace the shooting the team will lose next year with Moore’s departure.
